Spyro has many music projects going on at any one time, including rebetiko duet Melos, Greek music band Mortes, Greek traditional music band Karpouzi Trio, Greek-Turkish Asia Minor group DC Café Aman, ethno-jazz group Trela, oud trio Tri-Oud, the Greek Nubian Collective, solo performances, co-performances (live art demo with musical accompaniment) with painter Lukman Ahmad, and new projects are always in development.

Rebetika, Smyrneika, and Athenian style music from 1920-1960s. Evocative of music of the Plaka and Monastiraki Square in Athens of the 1960s. Melos smooth sounds create nostalgia of a tavernaki in Plaka. Melos plays an authentic – carefully curated repertoire of songs known and beloved by Greek audiences and that are also appealing to non-Greek audiences. They play compositions from Tsitsantis to Asia Minor Songs/Smyrneika, and more. MELOS is a product of the Mediterranean Notes Music School, comprising Teacher Spyros Koliavasilis and his protégé, Nicholas Mitrione.

Karpouzi Trio – Traditional Greek Music Trio

Karpouzi Trio plays music on traditional instruments from the Greek mainland and islands, and Asia Minor. The band loves to play for dance parties and community celebrations, and always, even in concerts, invites the audience out of their seats and onto the dance floor! Karpouzi Trio members are Spyros Koliavasilis (vocals, oud, laouto, kemane), Margaret Loomis (santouri), and Len Newman (laouto).

Trela – World Music Duet

Trela is a musical duo specializing in folk tunes and melodies from across the globe, with a particular focus on the enchanting sounds of the Mediterranean region. The captivating synergy between the accomplished guitarist and music teacher, Mark Sylvester, and the Master Oud player and music teacher, Spyros Koliavasilis, creates a spellbinding fusion of musicality, skill, and pure magic.

DC Café Aman

DC Café Aman (updated) revives and celebrates the rich, cross-cultural soundscape of deeply expressive songs beloved across Greece, Turkey, and the Mediterranean. Featuring the velvet-toned vocals and entrancing oud and kemane improvisations of Spyros Koliavasilis, the rhythmic drive of Hakan Keleş on guitar, Nicholas Mitrione’s playful bouzouki and baglama, and the dynamic bass of Firat Bass Alpergrin, the ensemble brings to life the soul of a bygone era while creating a fresh, modern experience. DC Café Aman captures the spirit of pre-war Café Aman music cafes that once thrived in Asia Minor’s urban centers and takes audiences on a journey from the 1900s-1960s Café Aman halls to the present moment beckoning listeners to rise, dance, and share in this vibrant music connects cultures.

DC Cafe Aman perfectly captures the cross cultural sounds of Greece, Turkey, and the Mediterranean. Their music is quite simply enthralling and enriching. TRIOUD

TRIOUD is an oud trio that plays plays Eastern classical music from the 17th century to the 21st century with a repertoire orchestrated for three ouds. TRIOUD is a product of the Mediterranean Notes Music School, comprised of Teacher Spyros Koliavasilis and his two oud students (who now join him on stage), Ian Powers and Nicholas Mitreone. Solo Performances

Spyro gives solo performances on a variety of instruments, most often featuring the Cappadocian Lyre and oud.

Spyro and Kurdish painter Lukman Ahmad Lukman perform regularly at galleries and other venues giving audiences dazzling and stunning performances blending Lukman’s vivid colors and passionate paint strokes with Spyro’s soulful oud improvisations for an unforgettable experience.
